A blank checklist for the next commission close

A reusable commission close CSV with evidence, reviewer, status and open-action fields, plus a fictional example that deliberately leaves one check unresolved.

A checked box is useful only when it points to something that was actually checked. This template turns a close into a short evidence register: source coverage, staff attribution, rates, exceptions, totals, handover and backup. The blank file lets you choose the checks that fit your process.

The useful part

Keep open items visible. The fictional example contains an unfinished backup check to show why a partly completed list is not a completed close.

Create one copy per period

Enter exact inclusive dates and retain the checklist with that period’s working papers. Add a row for each check rather than writing several unrelated confirmations in one cell. The example offers eight starting checks; the blank download contains only headings so you can adapt the operating list without inheriting a fictional completion status.

Give each check an owner and evidence

Read the deliberately incomplete example

The fictional file shows seven completed checks and one open check. Source rows and totals reconcile, the refund decision has a reference, and the export manifest has been inspected. The backup row remains open because a restore check has not been performed. No date or successful result is invented to make the list look finished.

Work from source to handover

A manually marked “complete” is your assertion. This spreadsheet does not independently inspect a report, validate a backup or guarantee that the application will allow finalisation.

  1. Confirm the report dates, filters, row count and signed totals.
  2. Check staff attribution, supplied rates and the calculation basis.
  3. Resolve each questioned row with evidence and inspect statement totals.
  4. Verify the final export pack and record where the backup can be restored.

Close the loop on exceptions

Use “not applicable” only with a reason that another reviewer can understand. For an open item, name the missing evidence and next action instead of leaving a vague reminder. Keep a dated completed version; if something changes later, create a follow-up record rather than making the earlier checklist appear to have known the new information. The interactive tool offers a separate way to complete and print a checklist.
