A commission agreement checklist

Make the calculation decisions explicit before the first pay run.

4 min read · Trimsum guide

Name the person and the rate

Trimsum supports a service percentage and a retail percentage for each staff member. Record the rates you have agreed, and check the staff names used in the source export. A missing rate holds that person’s lines for review.

Decide the calculation basis

Choose whether rates apply to sales including or excluding tax. When tax is not supplied by the file, Trimsum uses your configured tax percentage to infer it. Check the setting against your own records.

Define how refunds are handled

Decide how to treat refunds, corrections and duplicate records. The calculation tool can show a negative commission amount; the review step is where you decide whether the line belongs in this run and record why.

Agree the reporting period

Trimsum selects lines by invoice date. Make the first and last dates explicit, and consider whether a later refund should be reviewed in the next period. A saved run keeps the dates used at finalisation.

Record changes deliberately

Changing a rate recalculates draft lines and reopens their prior approvals. Historical finalised runs keep their original rates and calculations. This separates a new agreement from the record of a completed period.

Know the supported scope

This version supports flat service and retail percentages. It does not implement tiered targets, hourly wages, leave, superannuation or payroll submissions. Use the exported statement within your existing pay process.
